How it started

My high school was fortunate enough to have ceramics classes and 6 pottery wheels.  I started throwing on the wheel every spare moment I had because I found it relaxing.  My art teacher was kind enough to let me throw when other classes were going on and I had a study hall bell.  Fast forward a couple years, I am attending Kent State University majoring in Art Education and have to take a ceramics class.  I fell in love with clay again and took all the ceramics classes that were offered.  I ended up adding a minor in ceramics to my bachelors of art.  Then Covid-19 hit.  My senior year was cut short and I was student teaching online back home in Cincinnati.  I graduated in May 2020 and felt like my ability to make pottery was over since I no longer had access to materials, kilns, and space.  After adapting to the stay at home lifestyle I was itching to make something...anything.  I found a community ceramics studio in Norwood, rented a shelf, and bought some clay.  I had no idea what I wanted to make but I knew I just had to make something.  I started throwing on their wheels after work and on the weekends.  Then in 2021 I took the jump, purchased my own pottery wheel, and committed to the dream of Blue Pine Pottery.  Since then I have made my basement into a studio and even acquired a kiln to fix up.  Its been a rough journey but I am fortunate to be where I am with the support that I have.  If you happen to come to a larger event you'll probably see my entire family behind my booth chatting.
